Enjoy a 15 kilometer bike tour around the Tuscan countryside and discover the saffron’s secrets, just a few kilometres from Florence and into Mugello, a little slice of heaven.
After a short walk into the small village of Vicchio and around its beautiful lake, begin your ride into the countryside, away from traffic. Along the way you’ll meet a Romanesque Church, a Villa from the Medicean era, and see the home of Giotto, always surrounded by nature and the typical Tuscan landscape.
Halfway through the ride, you’ll stop at a saffron farm. Meet the local farm animals, see the bee hives and vineyard, and taste some delicious saffron-flavored products (honey, cheese, biscuits, beer, herbal tea), while the owners show you how to grow saffron.
You can easily reach the meeting place by train from Firenze S.M.Novella station to Vicchio (about 50 min scenic journey through the countryside).
The tour starts in Vicchio, a village of medieval origin, where great artists such as Giotto and Beato Angelico, lived their youth. The ride continues on country roads between farmhouses, vineyards and olive trees into Mugello area, the homeland of the famous Medici family, and a land that’s rich in history with their medieval castles, romanesque churches and noble villas.
WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!! This is so different from all the ‘ordinary’ guided tours you can book. Getting to Vicchio from Florence is straight forward and not expensive at all. If you’re ever in Florence and fancy doing something unique I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour! Thanks a lot for everything Simone!

Beautiful experience with Simone in the Tuscan countryside. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the scenic views, touring the farm, and the delicious tasting of Saffron-infused cookies, teas, and more, not to mention the company of Simone. Do it!

This adventure is the perfect antidote to the intensity of Florence! When you’ve had your fill of museums and crowds, take this outing. The bikes and helmets were in perfect condition. The town of Vicchio is charming. The bike ride was spectacular! The views were absolutely stunning, the farm and animals were so much fun. Simone made sure we were safe and comfortable, and we all had the best time. This outing was definitely the highlight of our vacation. I highly recommend it!

Simone was a wonderful guide. The ride was exactly as it was described and a beautiful experience. The stop at the farm for tasting the saffron products was excellent, don’t eat too much before you go as the snacks are delicious and plentiful! We also enjoyed meeting the owner of the farm and learning about growing saffron!
